Based in Studio 2000 in Borehamwood, we are not a conventional high-street retailer. Rather, we have five broadcast-quality fully engineered demonstration rooms to allow you to audition and compare the very best in projectors, blu-ray, stereo and surround-sound amplifiers and up to reference-quality speakers in a studio environment. You can compare a range of products safe in the knowledge that you are auditioning the systems you have come to see and hear without any colouration from the room they are in.
Our Stereo room even has a fully floating floor and isolated walls to ensure that nothing can detract from your critical evaluation of the best in CD and SACD players, 2-channel amplifiers and hi-end speakers. If you are looking for the best in sound and vision our studios are the place to see and hear the difference for yourself in true reference conditions. Why Are Our Demonstration Rooms Reference-quality? When you are trying to choose a hi-fi or home theatre system, you start with a budget and shortlist of manufacturers you want to evaluate. The next step is to audition them so that you can make an informed decision about which sound you like the best at the price you are prepared to pay. But any system, whether it is the source, such as a blu-ray or SACD player, the electronics (surround-sound processor), the power amplifier, or the speakers is coloured by both all the different things it is connected to and the room in which it is heard. Simply put, not matter how good an amp is you won't hear it perform to its best if the speakers used are not reference quality, and the room in which you listen to it is colouring the sound. So we have built our demonstration rooms to broadcast reference quality standard to ensure that whatever component you have come to see and hear performs without the distortions and colouration of either other equipment or the environment you audition it in. Our largest room - Screen 1 - is equipped with Denon's A1UD reference-quality blu-ray player, projected via JVC's top-end projector onto a 3m-wide 2.35:1 (anamorphic) Harkness Hall cinema screen. That sets the benchmark against which you can evaluate other players or projectors. Sound is processed and amplified through Denon's reference-level A1HD processor and power amps, played into PMC EB1 broadcast-reference speakers or Pioneers EX AirStudios-tuned reference speakers, again setting the benchmark against which you can compare different brands and models of speakers and amps. You can be absolutely sure that what you see and hear are the characteristics of the unit or system you have come to evaluate and not the result of listening to or watching other components which are part of the chain, and not coloured by the sonic characteristics of the room itself. Our goal is simple - in the emerging world of High Definition sound and vision we aim as far as possible to re-create in your home the movie experience the director intended - accurate in every detail.
